King of Peace was founded in 1975, with a group of 12 and has been continuously growing to a weekly worshiping body of 250 and more. After outgrowing their previous locations, the congregation bought the Fifth Avenue Cinema building in 1990, following a major two-year renovation and it became their current place of worship.
Meet the Pastors
King of Peace first pastor is Rev. Gloria Merrill and was followed by co-pastors Revs. Suzie Kliebenstein and Rickie Richards in 1978. In 1981 to 1983, Rev. Joseph Gilbert became the pastor of the congregation followed by Rev. Jack Herman. And, in 1984 to 1995, Rev. Dr. Fred Williams served as a pastor of KOP.
In 1995 to 2006, Rev. Elder John Gill served as pastor and then Jaye Sheldon, Director of Music, joined the staff in 2005 while Peggy MacLeod joined in 2007 as Director of Administration. The current Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Candace R. Shultis was elected by members of congregation in December 2007 and arrived at King of Peace MCC in January 2008.

Moreover, a vibrant blended worship experience, social activities, congregational care, music, outreach, and spiritual and personal education programs continue to serve as the foundation of King of Peace MCC family life. The congregation continue to foster and develop a community-centered diverse Christian ministry that is open and affirming.
When to Attend
Weekly worship service starts at 10:00 AM. The greatness of God is explored through blended Christian traditions such as Favorite hymns, preaching, Holy Communion and special music performed by the Music Staff to experience vibrant, uplifting worship. The Sunday worship services are interpreted for the deaf and children over age five have the opportunity to join children's church activities.
You can also participate in a variety of planned activities in the church ranging from spiritual and personal development workshops, to book discussions, movie screenings, cooking classes, and topical seminars. These classes are free but it requires advanced registration.
